I have not spending as much as time I should in my shop this winter, because I have been busy fishing…
Well, this is what I really have to do, (Been doing this for more than 5 years now) woodworking gift for my kids.

this was really a fun project, especially to see how it sounds and how it changes.
Tried to tune every key by cutting the other side of the top board, but the more I spend time tuning it, the more I realized that you don’t have to care much about it.. Well, this is a drum, it’s not a keyboard or marimba. And every key has 2 or more sounds at a same time, and even if I tune it well, it changes the tune when I put the board and the box together…
Anyway, it just came out OK for me and kids. It sounds really great, when you play…. uh, you would just forget the time. You can just play it forever!!!

The sticks have rubber top, which you can buy at 100 yen shop here in Japan. It can be really soft by putting it in hot water, and it becomes hard when cool. It is just like Superball .

Top is Nara (japanese oak) and the sides are ash.

Merry Christmas to all of you!!!

Yoi-o-toshi yo, Junji!
That drum is so cool. Do they sell them in Japan? I’ve never seen one before, here or there.
Do you have youTube vids of you playing on stage?

Thanks everybody, and again, Merry Christmas!

alba,
Thank you for your Japanese message, and it’s really surprising that you wrote my name just right with Chinese characters!

ward63,
Well, it didn’t take as much time I first thought. Maybe about 5 hours total…

Jafu,
I have never seen selling one like this. I just saw them with youtube and other sites.
Me playing youtube video… I have never thought about it.
Ah, here I found one me playing guitar and chorus. It’s some TV show about a few months ago.
