I guess this is what it’s called, just seen so many in import furniture stores, however the construction on those in the stores leave a lot to be desired.
The wood is mahogany. The top is joined by pocket screws then hidden by gluing the cutoff onto the opposite side of the board. This also makes a very nice accent at the top. The support for the shelves are “I” beams that I made out of a very dense species of wood that resembles mahogany but I’m not sure, it might be ipe, also known as ironwood. I don’t know what it is because the wood was salvaged from a bed trundle. The wood is extrememly heavy and hard and a pleasure to work with.
The shelves are from a single 13 inch wide by 14 foot long board that I bought at a small lumber store for $2.00/BF. The owner was trying to get rid of the stuff because it’s not something he normally carries and he got a couple lots of the stuff at an auction for next to nothing. He was passing on his good fortune and savings onto his regular customers. I left the edges rough because the machining marks are beautiful in itself.
The structure is finished with a satin stain polyurethane mix and the shelves were left raw. I will likely apply some sort of finish on them eventually but for now they just look so nice on it’s own.
Overall dimensions are 70 inches tall by 54 inches wide at the base and 15 inches deep.

Hey! Nice job. I like the design element at the top. Well done! Merry Christmas.

That’s really a neat piece!
