here are the two signs I made for my daughter and son-in-law. He doesn’t like cats (they have two).
Wood: re-purposed lacquered pine tongue & groove scraps.
Size: 9” in length and hmm about 3” high

thanks Buckskin.
I’m really enjoying the tongue and groove pieces that I have…
Rick said that he’s not convinced that it is pine. When he said that I started to question it as well because the tiny pieces haven’t broken off like has happened in the past… anyway, the wood is really nice to work with.

Hard to tell, but could it be maple?

Nice! I’m not sure about that Cat one though…that might have to hit the burn pile, but the Dog one is spectacular!

You have such a steady hand when it comes to scroll work. Lettering like that is not easy to get right without making it look like it was scribbled by a four-year-old. But yours look like they were typed. Good work, Deb!

Deb, I’ve been doing similar work since I got my scroll saw recently (purpose for the purchase). I’ve been using “headline” graphic fonts in the word processor for my lettering. What are you using? They look great. To answer a question you posted about my project recently, I’ve been avoiding pine and favoring hardwoods. At 1/4”, I’ve found walnut and oak cut very easily and I hope won’t be as fragile as pine could be. How durable do your pine signs feel? And what thickness are they?

thanks Blake.. I am going to give credit to the wood. It was/is really easy to work with.
CJ… this particular project was copied from something I found online so I don’t know what the font is.
As to the wood, we are now leaning towards it being maple and not pine. I’m 99% positive that it is not pine because I haven’t had anything snap off, unlike other projects I have done using pine.
I’ve tried walnut and it was not a lot of fun to work with, for me… too hard, but then maybe I was just too new to the machine to do it justice.
For now, until my supply is gone, I’m sticking with this stuff. 1) it works up so easily and 2) it already has a finish on it haha
Thickness is 1/4”.
