Variation of a Wood Magazine plan for carrying grill supplies to the BBQ. Made as a gift for a friend. Cutting board top is hard maple and walnut with an oil finish. First real learning experience with template routing…learning as in a couple of mistakes that fortunately were salvageable! Installed clear poly feet on the bottom of the board for friction and to center and hold the board from sliding off the box. (Plan called for a couple of woden slats screwed to the board which I thought would detract from the appearance more.)

Box is an unkown. We salvaged the material from his house when the landlord gutted out a bunch of custom-built trim work and was tossing a whole lot of wide, 6/4 material. (I’ll take that!) The original finish made it look like cherry but it turned out to be very soft and I suspect it is actually poplar. Didn’t take the stain evenly even after using a sealer first. Several coats of satin poly.

I like it, would look best with a couple of T-bones on top!

Now that’s just plain spiffy! Your friend is fortunate.

Indeed, wish it wasn’t winter or I would be out putting something like this together too! Nice
