A palm box

Walnut, oak and padauk, plus poplar ply for the bottom.

The oak came from an old frame and (very-)raised-panel door I pulled out of a dumpster. Possibly well over a hundred years old, looked hand-made, and they scrapped the cabinet for renovations to the house. The door was the only piece I could easily liberate and carry.

Some sanding-strategy errors that aren’t easily possible to fix, so I’m going to live with them.

The ‘meat’ for the hingepins is very small, but it hasn’t come apart yet. Of course, I’m still only finishing it, it has two coats of wipe-on poly on it now.

This one is to keep. Next one will be better.

Cool little box. I like how you shaped the pin in the curve of the box.

@ DaddyZ
The oak is actually European oak, as I got it in my hometown of Delft, Netherlands.

Thanks, though :)

Mooi! If you worry about the “meat” for the hinge pin, use 1.6mm brazing rod for the pins on your next box. It works just fine.

Beauty of a box. I really like that color combination. Nice job!

Nice small box. It looks like the box craze is starting again.

I’m not really into the box making business much but that looks like a nice one to me.
