Well I finally joined the club! Was inspired by Mafe to make these. I’ve always used Johnsons paste wax on screws to help them glide in, but I usually just opened the can to get some. Well I’ve been pretty busy lately and have not had time in the shop like I wish I did. So when I finally got some time yesterday I jump in the shop with no real plan as to what I wanted to do. These kept popping in my mind so here they are. Not as good a job as the others that I’ve seen on here but I’m happy with them. The small one is maple with walnut lid that I just screwed on. It will be the one I keep in the shop on the counter. The “original” is all walnut, with the a cherry key, which I will take out to work with me. The cherry really darkened up after I applied the boiled linseed oil, which I was really disappointed with but it was already glued on so not much I could really do. Both finished with boiled linseed oil ( my weapon of choice because I like how it really brings wood to life) The only thing I dont like is the screws. I didnt have any brass screws and didnt think driving 30 minutes to the hardware and 30 back would really be justified for a pack of screws, so just used what I had in the shop. Next trip to town I might stop and grab some to replace these. So thanks Mafe for bringing these to life!
