This display cabinet was one of those design as you go projects. I knew I wanted to do some marquetry and have glass for displaying stuff. It took awhile to come up with the shapes for the middle and the what to do with the top and bottom panels.
The frame uses large side stile/legs that make it awkward in designing the top. Which you notice isn’t there, I inserted wood to fill the gaps. I like the look, I think it lightens the case and accents the stiles/legs.
The door panels are marquetry with a back ground of birds eye maple with 5 different colors of wood. The red is veneered manzanita that I made by re-sawing an old trunk that a friend had given me. In fact I was cutting it up for fire wood and decided it was just too nice. The handles are made from it too.
Sorry the photo isn’t great. I might try again tonight. There is a lot of light behind the cabinet that seems to be cause it to blurr. That and I compressed the first 4 photos so they would load easier.
