I had some time and a little scrap wood. I drew up a basic plan that looks like one of the old GB pylon racers.

I used Walnut, Cherry, Maple and Alder. The cowling and engine are segmented buildups before turning them to shape and final size.

The prop and spinner are laminated using Maple and Cherry and then carved to shape.

The finish is lacquer.

What a great idea/project. I specially like the cowl and propeller.
The laminations and segmented blocks of contrasting woods really
make it ‘pop’.

An excellent job on the Gee Bee Racer. Choice of woods really makes it. And the cowl, just awesome.

And what a great subject to pick for your project. The Gee Bee has always fascinated me. A plane before it’s time… I once had a RC model of a Gee Bee, but not for very long, I reduced it back to kit form…but that’s another story.

” A tip of the hat to you sir” Just remarkable… I love it!

That is something else. Great use of different wood.

Now that is way cool! Got to be one of the best toys I’ve ever seen. Nice use of different woods and the proportions are right on. Excellent work, you can be very proud of this one. :>)

This stopped me in my tracks just now. I love it. What a lot of work! Will a child get the pleasure of it?!
