Well here is the kid’s table and chairs that I made for our friends little girls. When DW mentioned to the mother 2 weeks ago that I was making it she asked the Mother did she want any specific size or anything in particular. She said no . . . not at all. Just something for the girls and make it simple.

I got some dimensions from Karson and looked at a couple of other sets on line. I was then off to HD and purchased two 2×6x8 and one 2×10x8 spruce. I like using spruce because its cheap and with a little work it does not look all that bad. I went to work building the set during evenings in the garage and over a couple of Saturdays. I finished it this evening. Its no work of art, but very functional for 2 little girls. I have not finished it as I do not know if the parents want it painted or stained.

On Thursday of this week DW was speaking to the Mother who started asking questions about the table and chairs. The last statement was “I hope it is not to small as V (husband) was going to build it a little larger for them”. DW did not mention this to me until this evening. Good thing as I would have turned the chairs into a couple of little stepping stools for the shop.

Anyhoo . . . the whole family is coming in tomorrow and I cannot wait to see the looks on the little girls’ faces. They have been wanting a set for almost a year.

Really nice. Was the table and both of the chairs made with just 3 boards? It looks really good… I have a 4 year old that would love to have that set. I may just have to steal your design.. :)

That’s a nice set. I keep telling the Mrs. that I’m going to make something like that for the grandkids, and I am going to make something, someday. The young ladies should have a good time with it. And if V wants to make a bigger one, I know a couple of youngster who will gladly take that set off your hands.

Zuki – it looks great. Those girls are going to like it a lot. I wouldn’t worry about V. He’ll be glad you did the job for him.

Good job Zuki, they should like them and I’ll bet that “V” could not do nearly as well – or he would have done it in the first place.

Well Daddy and the youngest just left. The eldest was not able to make it as she was sick so Mommy stayed home with her.

Well . . . we told her that Santa helped me build it in my shop. This is true because little bits of his beard were caught in a couple of the joints. Its surprising how soft his beard is . . . its as soft as a cotton ball. She is not much of a talker, but her eyes and the smile said it all.

DW just called Mommy and the older girl just loves it. She wants to crawl out of bed and go coloring on it now. She is a little disappointed though as Santa’s beard got lost somewhere. Mommy and Daddy are going to look through their vehicle for it.

If they cant find it I think I seen another piece wound around my drill press. I told the jolly old fella to tie his beard back . . . but he just would not listen. Oh well.

Jamie,

Well it was actually made from

16’ of 2×6 (2 @ 8’)
6’ of 2×10 (I did not use the full 8’ piece)
8’ of 1×4 (a piece of strapping for the seat and back)

Oh . . . thanks for the comments everyone.
