This secretary desk is the first project for someone beyond immediate family. My neighbor was nice enough to let me make this desk.
Another plan from Norm and NewYankee.com.
The slots inside were to accommodate mail and organize for a laptop inside.
She is still using it and I am grateful to Brad and Dana for having confidence in me that at the time, I was not so sure about. I knew I could make it, but for someone else? That is a big leap, and any of you wondering for yourself, I assure you go for it. You are better at this woodworking than you may think.
This project was tougher than I expected, but rewarding all the same. I only charged them for the wood, but their kids think of us as a bonus set of grandparents, so we get a lot of joy from their friendship.

Wonderful piece of woodworking Tim. You rose to the occasion and should be very proud of yourself. Well done!

Great job, the 1/2 blind DT’s look great on the top. What is the side pull outs for?

Side pullouts are so that when the lid is down and performing as a desk top there is good support. As an older (1700s)design, they are manual, but there are mechanisms you can buy that make the pullouts come forward when you pull the lid down.
