I designed this fireplace surround to fit into a rather busy spot – between two doorways leading to a living room. The client wanted to have a shelf to store their TV components. Because they wanted to keep the costs down, I made the surround from mdf (which I call “muhduf”, an indigenous North American wood, right?!) which they will be painting to match the stairs you may notice to the left of the first two photos. The site installation took half as long as the total construction.

Isn’t interesting having to work in tight places. I think this will turn out great after it is painted to match the staircase. Your trim work is very good and looks sound.
Good job.

Michale, Speaking of trim, I used my new 2” Grex pinner for applying it all. What a great machine.

Nice work Marty. Hopefully the paint work will match your quality. Great idea on using the breast plate as a door front and storage.
