Dowel Rod Rack

Here is a dowel rod rack I made a few years ago that I thought I’d share with everyone in case anyone is thinking about building one. I used to have the bunch of them in a barrel and had to fight to find the right one or if I had one of the size I needed. With this rack I can see right away what is there and retrieve it.
In the last shot you can see the wood divider I put in the PVC so you can store different sizes in one tube. They have gotten mixed a bit over the years, but I can always see my inventory

It has proven to be a real handy addition in my shop.

Such a nifty idea,
You could use that idea for other long lengths too. (Since I don’t do much with dowel.)

Thats a fine idea, I like your order. Also the jaw rack.

Hi, Jim. Anything to help keep the shop clean and orderly is a wonderful addition. I really like this one.
I am building a new assembly table right now, for the same reasons. Thanks for sharing this one.

Nice job on those holders for your dowels. I love your colection of screws in the jars, that reminds me of my dads workshop he had them on a lazy susan and he turned them around when he wanted a screw or nail.

Hi Greedo. See that little shelf on top of the rack. That is where the short pieces go. It gets a cluttered sometimes but it is easy to sort through.

I wish I had some leftover wall space to do something like this. My leftover dowels end up in the scrap bin, sometimes lost forever. Great idea and execution.

Jim, this is a great idea. I may have to borrow it or make something very similiar as I have been using a lot of dowels lately.

Now that is organization – I really like it. I was gonna make one of a vertical style (with a chord to the bottom to pull up), but I believe I like your design better. Hey, your design would work well with a cleat system too..

Thanks for sharing !
