Oak Benches

My daughter asked me to build two sturdy benches. I used oak, using quarter sawed material since I wanted to do the inlay work without major distraction from the grain. The inlay work is alternating birch and ebony. The photos do not show the underside work, but the benches would likely hold an elephant.

Very nice Jerry. How did you do the inlay?

I glued up the ebony and birch fan shape, knifed the boundaries and removed the wood with router and chisel. On the straight ways, this is a saw cut filled with the same two woods their lengths gradually getting shorter as the design moves toward the center dot.
