This is a small lidded salvaged Kauri lidded vase. It stands about 10” tall x 4” wide.
Played about with the base a bit, not sure? on result, I also have a problem with finials getting the right proportions /design etc.
Overall I am happy with the result.
Finished in several sealet coats, a spray on shellac rubed back and mop polished
Thought I would throw in a few “as you go” shots just to add a bit of interest, I sometime look at others work and think it would be nice to see the odd progress pic.
any comments / suggestions would be welcome

Another stunner Pete. That detail you add to your pieces with the textured areas is perfect. I must say though that I prefer when the base and finial are a different wood like in your last posting. But I know that is just my personal preference. Beautiful work as always Pete. I love what you do.

Actually Chip I tend to agree how it’s finished (as such) I am looking at taking the top off leaving the first ring & adding a finer ebony extension. See if anybody elese has any ideas.

Hey, I think it looks really nice, and thanks for sharing the extra photos, I like the way you kind of draw out your plan on the work itself, smart. thanks

Thanks everybody for your kind comments, “pool man” yes I always try & do a sketch of what I am trying to achieve, however sometimes you have to go along with what the wood has in mind, this piece changed in the lid detail to the origonal.
Maybe some of the other guys can add some pics of WIP.
cheers form NZ
