Hi again everyone , Here is my latest Extreme Birdhouse just finished this morning.
It is made from 120 year old reclaimed barnwood and it has 22 very spacious apartments.
This is the third time i have done this model but of course a few details are different.

Your birds live better than I do. Real nice.

Can you go into detail of how you mount these onto a support and the needed details for success? I would like to know such things as how high up do you put them and how do you keep creatures from climbing up to them to get tasty birds and eggs to eat? I know you have about 33 cats, do you have any problem with them getting at the birds? And how far away from the house do you put them so you don’t get poop all over your car and hanging laundry? Also how do you get to the bird houses to clean them? I just think answering these kind of questions would be on many people’s minds.

I’m not in a position to buy one, I don’t own a home for starters, but I’m having these questions and would like to know incase I run into someone who might be interested in your birdhouses. I love them and hope you sell many and sure wouldn’t mind sending someone your way.

By the way in some ways this bird house is a favorite of mine because it has a chimney.

Hi Diane and thanks .
I mount the houses about 8 – 10 ft in the air depending on the size.
It,s even better if someone has a old or dead tree that is still standing and that is at least 8 ft high . It saves digging a hole and putting a post in.
I dig them down a little more then 4 ft below the frost line.
Once the post is in i set the base on top of the post then attach it with supports ( branches ) cut on a 45 degree angle. The birdhouse gets screwed down once the base is attached level.

I have never had problems with cats or any other animal climbing them . The base is pretty big so it is hard for animals to get past that . As far as the bird dung mother nature does a great job keeping them clean. Between rain and snow they always look clean. I keep them about 30 + ft away from the house . I don,t see a lot of dodo in my yard other then from the cats.
Cleaning is easy too , The roof is only screwed down so to clean it just remove the screws and everything is easy to get at. I have also used bun tongs that work just as well you stick them in the hole and pull the nest out. It,s much faster and less work .

John, well done.

Yet another masterpiece, a shelter in appalling weather conditions. Don’t know how anyone can survive that!

Happy Christmas and the very best for 2008!

Thanks Dan
I have 10 birdhouses in my yard , 5 of them are up and 5 waiting for new homes .
I get a large variety of birds but i mainly have sparrows and swallows nesting in the large houses.
I do have Purple Martins in the smaller houses. It just depends on the type of bird you want and the size of their nest and hole size.
