This was my first attempt at peppermills. I love trying new things. These are Canary wood, 8” tall. The finish is only Danish oil. My true love liked this look better than glossy and I always listen to the experts. Sorry for the sloppy photos. They are too large for my little photo tent but this was the best light available. They will be gifts for my sons for Christmas. Now, if I can just get my shoe carved!

Beautiful grain and a very nice design. I’m about ready to try making a few, but I’m not trying for Christmas. Did you use your “Good” wood for the first one?

I’ve got to make a couple (a Salt and Pepper) for a friend out of Carob wood.

Yes Karson, I used the good stuff for the first run…I did not have anything on hand thick enough so it was either glue something up or take a stab at it. I bet Carob makes pretty mills.

I had a template that I made and used it on the first one and to lay out the lines on the others (there are 3 more). I stuck to the plan on the first one and then got loosened up a little on the others. If these were for sale, I would have put a stronger finish on them but my kids will keep the dish soap off them so they should be ok.

Hix: Here are the two pieces of Carob. Right now they are 3 3/4” square X 11 1/2” long So I need to trim them down a little. I’m going to keep the full length.
