Hello!

Here is a koa wood knife for my 10 y/o nephew. My brother inlaw (travis) and his son (carter) came to visit and we decided to work on something together. Carter really wanted a pirate knife, so he picked a photo online and a chunk of wood and we went to town.

We scaled the photo to the desired size then printed, cut the outline out on paper, traced it on our prepared koa blank, then shaped it using the: bandsaw, router, belt sander, strip sander, spindle sander, rasps, files, and sand paper.

This is a single piece and he loved it!

Beautiful and functional. Careful careful… there are famous Japanese swordsmen who were never defeated in battle and never used anything but a wooden sword!

It looks like a good project for your nephew!
However, just because it’s a wooden knife doesn’t mean it is 100% safe.
