I save a lot of my scrap wood, cutoffs and leftovers until fall and then turn a bunch of birdhouses for gifts and charity sales. These are a sample of the different styles that I turned yesterday. I purchase the little birds at Hobby Lobby and use red beads to decorate the birdhouse tops. I drill a small hole in the top, insert a round toothpick and glue a bead on – when it is dry I turn it down to the contour of the top. The hook is a cutoff double barbed fish hook. A great way to utilize all the small scrap wood pieces. These were all turned from pieces as small as 2×2x4. Finials were all turned from pen blank cutoffs.

They are all adorable! Each one has it’s own unique character from the TLC you put into them. They are so much nicer than those plastic molded ornaments sold at the junque stores. I would not call them “scrappy birdhouses” but rather birdhouses de scrapp’e
