Black Clock

November, 2010—I started this about two months ago. The woodworking was complete, but our local craft store was out of clocks. But then I found one on a day-trip to Woodcraft, a store about 40 miles from my house!

This is made out of pine. I was very careful to cut it out by following the flow of the grain. It was beautiful. But then I ruined the look I was hoping for. I pre-stained and stained it, which had the effect of reducing the contrast of the grain in the wood. Disappointing, and no “undo” like on the computer. So I decided to spray it gloss black.

I am working on a second, larger one, made from the same pine. I will only be covering with clear coat in that one!

This clock project stands about 8-inches tall. Tools used were table saw, band saw, and drill press.
