Eccentric Gobvase with Captive Ring

At about exactly midnight Saturday, I began.
With this.

The last of the little Cape Chestnut log from which this came. The, admittedly, less interesting part.

And proceeded thusly.

And carried on in this manner.

I knew, at this point, that I was looking to, somehow, incorporate a captive ring.

On a vase like Thing?

Just watch.

When I determined from whence the ring would emanate, I stopped for the night. Thought was required, because I began to see a bit of eccentricity, as well.

Now you’re talking crazy.

Crazy as a loon. It might be doable. I’ve seen crazier Things.

And, after pondering on it pretty much all day, and getting home tonight, I went wobbly on it. Twice.

Why?

It would, clearly need something for the ring to hang from. Something needed to tilt.

It’s not much, as eccentricities go, but, it worked.
I’m now down to my very log of Cape Chestnut. I think I’ll go out back with my lantern and bring it in, now.

Thank you.And, I apologize.

Headphones, everyone. This is too cool.

Very Nice!

I’ve never heard of Cape Chestnut. Is that a west coast species??

Did you make a special tool for the captive rings?

BTW, I don’t think the “Buddy Notifications” are working again. I stumbled onto your post by looking thru the “pulse” section.

So was it Lew, or was it Larry with whom I was conferring about not getting notifications? Whatever. It was one of you guys. I think I sent Larry a message this morning about it.
Lew, the “special tool” I use is a dental tool. I’m not getting the notifications today.

Oh yeah. And Lew, the Cape Chestnut looks like a Magnolia, except that it has clusters of small flowers instead of one big one like Magnolias do. I’m pretty sure they’re related. Look it up on the computer. You have one of those don’t you?

I also did not get a notice – or any notice about this project and messages in my In Box. I blame the approaching full moon which was thoroughly messing with the computers at work today

Great job Mark,

You took the “less interesting part” and made it most interesting. “Crazy as a loon” you say – Nay say I – crazy like a fox he is. Your muse is back with your mojo intact and you are in tune with both the voice of the wood and the music of the spheres – the rings of Saturn are envious of the eccentric tilt you produced.

This one definitely resembles the Mad Hatter’s hat – don’t deny it you Mad Turner. Can’t wait to see what you do with the last log.

Thanks for posting, Happy Thanksgiving, friend

Nice work Mark. I’ll bet you eccentric at the end of the day!! I am not getting notices and just happened on this project of yours. Nice captive ring! You have to listen to the wood to tell you where it wants the captive ring, too!!!!!!

Cheers, Jim

Thanks, Brian. The notification bug has been going around lately. I caught it a couple days ago. (You won’t see this in your email.)

Nice job Mark, I still haven’t tried a captive ring.

No notices to me either plus google tells me this site is not safe, don’t know if I should be on here.
