So he does not feel left out—- sure. I’ve made this for my one guy boss. I’ve made this design before so it was an easy and quick project. I was not sure what I was going to get him until last night. Of course, I’ll make sure he also gets his yearly bottle of Crown Royal. Tradition is tradition after all.

Very nice Betsy. Does everyone else suck up with 100.00 gifts and you squeeze in with a 5.00 chunk of wood that you turn into a piece of beauty.

The other girls bring cookies and salsa. I think mine last a bit longer. Although some of those cookies taste better than Mahogany saw dust!

That is a beautiful box, Betsy! I’d have been tempted to make one that the Crown would fit into though. :-)

I don’t know Betsy, some of the cookies that are brought into my office are note nearly as good as mahogany saw dust… Very nice job with the box.

Nice box Betsy. Glad I don’t like any of my bosses – so I don’t feel obligated to give them anything :-)). Just kidding, I do like them, but working for the State we are not allowed to accept gifts for the public we serve – so no gifts for the bosses we serve.

Betsy,

I know from experience that this kind of boxes are “the bomb”. They are the perfect gift since most people have never seen something like this ever. Be prepared to get a lot of “gift requests” at the party. Usually the women just admire the piece and want to “pet it”. Men inevitably ask about how it was made and “how did you carved the inside”. Since most people think amateur woodworkers are some kind of DIY, they are shocked that something artistic can be produced in a garage/small workshop. Have fun giving a lot of explanations at the party.

Nice execution of the box by the way. Is this your first bandsaw box?

Thanks all. Alin – nope not my first rodeo. That’s why I was able to knock it out so fast. I’ve never done the real intricate band saw boxes, but I’ve made plenty of the simple ones.

Ah….nothing more beautiful than a flowing band saw box. Very simple and elegant at the same time. You do nice work Betsy. How big is it? Just thought I would ask.

Very nice! I have never made a bandsaw box. Can somebody point me to blog, website, etc. on how to create one?

I’m afraid of sounding sexist, but I love to see women getting into woodworking. It seems that many females are bringing some very creative takes on tried and true projects. And yes, much better than cookies Betsy!

Betsy, This and all of your office gifts look great. It is nice to get gifts that last. We have a table full of food where I work and it will be gone by the holiday I am sure.

Thank you all for your comments. Blake – as to the raise—- YEAH!!!! They were very generous to me as usual. (any by the way – the raise decisions were made before the gifts were given!)

Karson – I may be coming your way soon——not sure when though – my sister just moved in your neck of the woods – will give me a good excuse to come that direction.

Jeff – Nothing really sexist about your comment I think. Women have been in woodworking a long time, but we are just now really making our voices heard. Despite the failure of things like “Woodworking for Women” magazine (which was a deplorable example of a magazine by the way) and the terrible introduction of “tomboy” tools – which are definitely sexist – Women really do have a place in woodworking. I’ve only ever had a handful of issues with men not liking me in woodworking or other traditional men hobbies – but for the most part I think men of today accept women working wood just fine – we all belong. There is no escaping the fact that men and women think differently and I think that is a good thing and that good thing just makes this woodworking experience better for all of us. It’s all perspective. Oh oho——I’m lecturing – sorry!

Have you handed it over yet Betsy? How did it go? – lots of interest? Wish I’d worked with folks with talents like this!

York – handed it over on Wednesday. Went down real big!!! He’s left it on his desk for now so everyone else can see it. I’ve got a lot of great comments on this and the other gifts I gave out this year. The biggie though was the cutting board for one of the other attorneys. My attorneys really took care of me this year to – I’ll have no trouble getting a set of water stones and a few other goodies I’ve been wanting!

Thanks for looking – and Merry Christmas!
