Technically this is not a finished product but my current project has several “new to me” aspects and they are really quite separate. This is one of them , finished.
Many of us here have made lots of wood out of trees, but how many of us have made a tree out of wood? ( or even wanted to, I guess) This all came into being when I was trying to come up with the next variation on my mitered, grain matched box to follow Oops! (see my projects) I started sketching thoughts and the idea of a tree as support for a cabinet kept showing up under my pencil. What you see here is the result of a truly inordinate number of highly enjoyable hours spent in the shop. The last photo is the “set of plans” for the new project ”A Little Cabinetree” soon to be appearing here. I was going to do a blog on the how to’s of the job after I posted it, but I decided to follow Dennis Zongker’s lead and do the blog first and then post the project. ( I hope you don’t mind Dennis, it is the sincerest form of flattery.)

This is awesome, I too have been thinking of doing something like this…you beat me to it. I think it’s pretty cool.

Looks great. How about some wood leaves? I look forward to seeing the completed tree…

Greg, If you want wood leaves, maybe you didn’t look closely enough at the “plans”. They are there.

this looks like a grreat start…

By the way—-the trunk—-is that how you make a hollow mast? How did you “round” it down…its obviously not a straight cut since you shaped it to look like a tree…hand tools? grinder?

Cant wait to see the next step…

That’s really cool. Very organic. I look forward to watching it grow.

That’s different although your boatbuilding skills are apparent in the construction, nice idea

WOW! I’m supposed to make a tree for the preschool, but i was just just going to keep it simple and use parts as-is! WOW…really. That is really impressive to take it from natural to squared, AND back!

You just can not keep your imagination or your talented woodworking idle. Thank you for sharing and giving
us ideas we are going to have to do something with, even if it is only to dream. That plan you showed is
just enough to make my imagination wander, now I am going to have to be impatient until the finished
product is revealed.

Thanks for the comments and encouragement. I hope all your questions will be answered in the attached blog over the next few days while I add finish coats.
