Custom watch box gift

This box is a gift for my son on his 16th birthday. I’m a watch enthusiast and he is starting to enjoy the hobby. The box is made of solid walnut grain wrapped around the sides. The top is book matched burl veneer with banding. Inside is a custom designed liner (finished with milk paint) with space for his three watches which is removable and can be changed in the future. External finish is just sprayed lacquer.

Thanks for looking.

Best wishes.

That top is stunning and the box is very elegant. What a great way to support his interest in a great hobby!
I’m interested in the hardware if you wouldn’t mind sharing your source…

That is a nice box. Love how you put the knot in front too. Gave it some character

Thanks everyone for the comments.

I did like the knot in the front and just stabilized it with some epoxy.

The hardware is a jewelry box catch (JB-828) from Brusso. The quadrant hinges are just the standard small ones from Rockler. The box has small magnets in the corners to give it a satisfying “snap” when it closes.

I’d generally agree about kids and watches. I guess my son likes watches because his dad does….

Richard,

Thanks for the info on the hardware. I’m new to a lot of this so I appreciate the help, especially the tip about the magnets!
