I know it’s not necessarily a woodworking project, but it does concern the shop where such projects take place.

Made this tonight, to help corral all the wood in my basement shop, so my boyfriend would quit complaining about having to hurdle the pile to get to the freezer :) Ah, the joys of having to share shop space.

Just two garbage cans mounted on a plywood base, with casters. Long pieces go in the bins, sheet goods get stuck in the middle, and the whole shebang rolls out of the way. Used 6 screws with washers through the bottom of each can, to help with the top-heavy forces it will be subject to.

I put dinky little casters on, because that was all the budget allowed for. It really needs more robust wheels, so I’ll end up replacing them later. When the cart is empty. That is to say: never, probably!

Just putting this out there for people who are looking for a quick and simple solution for scrap wood storage.

Enjoy!

I break mine all the time and have to replace them. I get lazy and toss the wood. This only reminds me that I can’t play basketball worth a darn. Nice to be able to roll around.

So, now that you’ve had this for a bit, are you finding the garbage cans to be stable? I was curious if once they were full whether or not they’d be tippy. I’m need of something better than my immovable solution in the corner!
