Maple bookcase with dovetail joinery and a quartered sycamore drawer front. This will go next to my wife’s desk in our office/spare bedroom. The case is held together with through dovetails on the top corners, tapered sliding dovetails for the bottom shelf, and a dovetailed drawer! My dovetailing still needs some work, but they’re better than some I’ve cut – cut by hand including the sliding dovetail. The back is 5/16” maple shiplap with a bead I scratched in with a scratch stock.

This was a fun project! Next time my wife says “it doesn’t have to be fancy” maybe I’ll take her advice – this one took about 2 months. The two knobs took me several days – all the maple I had was only 4/4, which would have made too small a knob. So I wandered around looking for some maple firewood, ended up finding some ash and turning them from that – close enough! Took a few tries to get 2 that looked identical, but I can say that I turned them myself.

This is a really nice case. Your dovetails came out great with the mitered side. I also love the QSS. Great job!

Thanks AJ. The mitered dovetails were tricky! First time I tried that. I had to fill a couple gaps. But unless you look really close they’re not too noticeable.
