The year of the box.

Every year I get distracted from my woodworking goal and end up doing something else. I was suppose to concentrate on using my hand tools this year, but instead I started making boxes. The nesting boxes were made from some leftover 4×4 from my workbench legs. Both the nesting and pencil box were done on a bandsaw. The two sliding top boxes were just traditional miter corner boxes. I am trying to learn this proportion thing out. My goal is to eventually step up to jewelry and stationery boxes. None of the boxes have finish, they were more practice. The pencil sharpener was an ebay purchase. you can’t find a self feeding sharpener anymore.

They say practice makes perfect. I would say you have done enough practicing. They look great to me.

Nice collection of boxes you have there. I really like the pencil box. Pretty nifty…

I can so relate with the box thing. I originally planned on building furniture when I first got into woodwork. You know… Stuff like coffee tables, end tables, some chairs, entertainment centers, etc….

I wanted to find simple things to practice the basics on, and so I started building boxes to hone my fundamental skills. long story short I got the box bug, and find that to be my thing. So take this as a warning… They can be very addictive.

Look forward to seeing more. I always have a soft spot for a nice wood box….

Ok, so I am a little late in seeing these, but just did a search on bandsaw and came a cross them. Nice pieces I really like the pencil sharpener box. That old No.2 pencil makes a nice handle, glad to see it can be used for something other then scantron test.
I too will look forward to more projects.

Eric, wow, those are great boxes. I’m with the others in that the pencil box is my fav too. One thing I realized is that there’s always time (unless you’re making holiday gifts!) to drive off on all sorts of tangents. If you learn something new, it’s all worthwhile!
