I see there is some discussion as to where this design came from…well, it’s mine :) Heres the first one- I built this about 5 years ago, and since posting it on my website I have seen variations spring up all over the web…it’s fantastic that it has had such wide appeal.

Nice Ryan, I’m glad credit was placed where due. Especially for such a unique and engaging design. I’d imagine its very gratifying for your design to find its way around as much as it has. A tribute to your craftsmanship.

Just like in music, imitation is the greatest form of flattery but, nothing compares to the original.

I have seen some of the variations of your original box and I have to say that yours is too beautiful for words.

Kudos for such an outstanding work of art!!!

Wow, this is wonderful. I especially like your attention to design and craftsmanship detail on the inside. Really beautiful.

Congratulations on your wonderful original design. I’ve been getting more and more comfortable with where I’m at skill-wise, but I always wish I had more of a design sense. Most of my designs are borrowed and altered somewhat. I envy your artistic eye. Bravo.

Ryan,
This is a beautiful design. I have always liked the Japanese “style’ and have seen a lot of .. copies.. of this type of work, but nothing as far out front as you have completed here.. my hat is off to you for such a fine original job.. now I am headed to the shop to try and copy those legs..

After looking at the rest of your work, you have a great talent that we are all very fortunate that you are willing to share it with us.

Thanks for the posts..

Thank you to everyone!

Doug, to copy the legs: Mark the curve on two sides, cut one out with the band/scroll-saw, then re-attach the offcut in in place with double sided tape and cut the other curve :)

Cheers,

Ryan
