Computer Desk for Two

This is a computer desk I designed and built for my wife and me. We share an office and each needed room for two computers plus some workspace.

The top is made of two 1/2” layers of mdf glued together to make a 1” thick top. I rounded the edges with the router and used pre-made metal legs. The overall dimensions are 10’ wide x 6’ deep.

It has some tapers to the top – on the main section it tapers from the center to each side so we somewhat face each other when sitting at the computers. The left hand peninsula also tapers which gives more room to move in and out of that area in an office chair. I included a Sketchup top view to show this.

Like the design, like the use of space, Like the finish…What did you use?

Cool office, I like it although I see one problem. Which one of you has the bigger screen? LOL Nice work.

Randy,

That’s similar to what my wife is looking for. A future project for me, I’m glad I got to see yours first. It came out real nice, very clean looking. What is the height of the table? I am thinking of putting two drawer file cabinets under the top’s. Thanks for the post.

I like the peninsulas. Very clean, modern look to it.

I am also curious what you used to finish. It caught me off guard when you said MDF.

The desk top is 28 3/4” high (determined by the leg height). The legs were from IKEA and cost only $3.50 each
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70105292.

I also used an IKEA cable management tray under the desk top – it is 53” long and the same color as the legs http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20171722.

The primer and paint are Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch. The color is Kona Brown with a gloss finish. I really liked using this paint. I applied it with a trim pad (the kind with the two little wheels on the end).

As for who has the bigger screen – I’ll let you guess.
