The Mrs Cheryl and I are currently in Japan on holidays and spent the best part of this week helping a mate Simon on his spacious block of land that he uses to park all his Caterpillar (CAT) toys. He is currently building a house on the block and I got he job of knocking together some door way shuttering for the ten inch concrete external footing walls.

Whilst I had the drop saw set up I took the opportunity to build a couple of very simple shop stools . Using two leg designs one crossed and one conventional they were screwed together using inch and three quarter by four inch pine. The tops using left over half inch concrete shuttering plywood that here in Japan comes pre painted yellow on one side for easy removal after concrete pour.

The tops already painted yellow I sprayed the legs black to have them in the caterpillar (CAT) colours. With a box cutter I did a simple CAT stencil out of cardboard to spray the insignia on the seat tops.

Hopefully the simple seats will serve the building team well during the build. Definitely good for after knock off happy hour around the fire.

Bellow also a few more pics of the site showing some of the CAT machines and the team hard at work.
All in all a great week it was with Big Boss Simon, Forman Jake Boss and the boys from Estonia, oh and Lovie Cheryl to keep the fire stoked.
Thanks for reading.

great project Anthony and I must say for some reason the benches look better with Cheryl holding them.

Thanks Dick, yes she’s a good looker but she’s not just that. Very very handy around the building site. Organises toolls and off cuts all day, runs around picking up after people. She’s a real Gem.

Thanks for the comment.
Cheers Anthony

Hi Rob
Yes great call about necessity being the mother of all invention, and your spot on , I knew for Cheryl to be happy on site all week she’d need somewhere to sit and take little breaks.

Thanks for reminding us about the holiday thing, like yourself though when it comes to building and wood I figure we are vocationalists and the pleasure was in helping a mate. By the way Lovie and I flying to Brisbane on Monday night for ten or so days on the farm. If you and your wife Aurora are about please call in.

Cheers Anthony

Pity I only have a Ute otherwise we could collect you from the airport and travel together, stay a while and return you both to the Airport.
