I had not used my lathe in a long time. I had finished a lot of cutting boards and boxes, so I decided on a change of pace. I got the Redwood Burl from Larry Dubia, a fellow lumberjock and the Cherry Burl from Turner John, in Michigan. He sells here in trade and swap. I had fun turning. The Redwood was very wet, but I had no issues with cracking or warping. I took a week to slowly turn it and never took it off the lathe. The Cherry was also damp, but it turned very well. I had to fill some voids, but they both look nice. Salad Bowl finish for the Redwood, plus some wax- still not really happy with that. Watco Natural Danish Oil for the Cherry. They are both about 6” in diameter. The Redwood is about 6” tall and the Cherry about 2 1/2” tall. I’m getting ready for a show today, so sorry for the rushed pictures.
-- Robert, so much inspiration here, and so little time!
