So I turned this plate out of two pieces of mahogany plywood glued together and mounted to the faceplate at a fifteen degree angle. I included a photo with a pear cup.
I never would have thought of posting a picture of the plate, but I have seen a few projects on here where some folks have made some nice looking projects with plywood themes. My plywood was recovered from packing crates from the far east.

Thats interesting! Is plywood hard to turn? You would think it would come apart.

It turns rather easily, but the dust from it kind of worries me. I don’t know what kind of glue they would use in the P.I., but I am sure the dust from it isn’t good for you.

The thing that is amazing to me is that you recycled this from some packing crates. I am astonished that any wood, even plywood, of this quality would have been used in a crate. You buy, so called, cabinet grade, plywood at your home center here in the states and you end up with something that has voids all throughout. I don’t see anything like that in this. That is a very interesting idea. I suppose it isn’t much different from the idea of doing segmented turnings. It turned out very nice. Sort of like spirograph for wood turners.

Doc, I thought I had answered your post yesterday. Probably didn’t hit the post comment button.
The ply wood comes from overseas, and there are large airplane parts crated up in them. This Plywood has more strength than any plywood you could buy at the big box stores and there are few voids in the internal plies. It is not cost efficient to ship the crates back, so my company lets the employees recycle as much as we can.
