I had no clue what to get my youngest brother for Christmas. I called to ask him. He said something for his poker room, but not the poster of the dogs playing poker..he has that already. Well after walking the aisles at Wally World for a good 1/2 hour looking for something poker-ish, I though…hmm…why not make him a simple plaque for the wall? I made this with some oak I had laying around (didn’t even have to cut it!), ran my roman ogee bit around it, burned the words in, put some cards and some of my poker chips on it. I finished it with some water based poly.

Now that was quick and clean. I like it. Being me, I would have added 3 “8’s” to them Aces on the left.

Just a spin on the “Dead Man’s Hand”

Seeing in it pictures, I should’ve put the pocket aces a little farther in. Oh well, it is definatively unique! :)

Dex,
Good thinking, sure it is better then anything that you would have found at the store.
Looks real good.

Clever idea. How did you mount the cards, did you apply finish over them? I have to do some boxes with photos, and would appreciate your input.

I mounted the cards and chips with hot glue. I applied two coats of poly to the whole thing. I probably could have put the cards in as an inlay, but I had very little time to put this together and get it sent off.
