Project Information
Here is a pretty basic but beefy bench I made for the foot of the bed. Solid sapele with walnut as the support/apron….
I picked up a great piece of 12/4 sapele from Hearne Hardwoods (only 30 min from my house!!!!) and cleaned up the rough milled board to find some beautiful grain and decided to bookmatch the top and focus the whole bench around the top. I book matched the legs as well from the same board.
Used pretty simple joinery, some hidden screws and then glue and dowels to hold the top to the base(not that gravity wont help with a piece of sapele 5 feet by 16 inches by 1 3/8 thick….did I mention it was heavy)
Finished with 3 coats of the Sam Maloof oil/poly mix from Rockler.
Again it was all about that beautiful grain on the top. The morning sun comes in the windows of the bedroom everyday and it just lights up.
