This is my first book matched fractal burned piece. The wood was resawed, planed , wet with the vinegar/baking soda mixture and then clamped together and burned from the sides. it is not a perfect match on each side but came out pretty good.

It is a piece of 1/2”x 6” x 8” mesquite and it finished with clear lacquer.

What does it look like to you? I need to give it a name.

Now it can be “Frank”..with an extra hole to hang it either way!!

cheers, Jim

That is some neat stuff Jim! My first thought was Inkblot Test Cards used in Psychological testing. My 2nd thought is female. I know don’t say it! LOL!

Beings the dim. 8 is not ”, I presume that is feet…

Possible name “Burnt Shorty”... LOL

I thought you burnt one side THEN resawed it … it looked that close…
Amazing how it burnt so close to the same as the other side…!

Jim, turn it up side down and you will see a face. Complete with eyes, nose mouth. You may get by with it being a mean pumpkin for Halloween. I like where you’re going with this. Thumbs up for this.

Super Cool!

I’d call it “Alone on a Hill”

I agree with Dave, Witches face with a pointy hat.

Very impressive. My first thought was a tree that has been through a forest fire. So my suggestion for a name is:

After the Fire

Thanks for sharing.

Great looking burn Jim.

Standing up like you have it, I see a big cat’s head with paws on either side.
On its side, it looks like “Water’s Edge”

Nice even burn Jim, most naming rights are taken above. Just a thought mate, do you scrub the finished burns with vinegar other solutions? Must try your vinegar and Baking Soda, I have just been using water.

Quite interesting Jim,
My wife and I were admiring your piece, and she suggested “A Magical Faery Tree”.
It’s beautiful.

Oh my goodness, it does look like a face when you look at it upside down. How cool is that!

Flipped to show the face for folks with limited imagination I’ve no explanation for that low looking brow though.

BTW I renamed the pic “grumpface”

Thanks for posting.

As mentioned, you could turn it upside down. Maybe you could call it “Frank”
