Inspired by designs on the YouTube videos posted below, I built my first pivot type blast gate for my 6 inch dust collection ductwork. A few cosmetic errors resulted from tweaking my first prototype but it won’t be visible in the final installation.

This gate is installed behind my miter saw station. I plan to build a plenum type air box so no piping is required on the intake side of the gate.

In my normal fashion, I designed and built this “on the fly” with no plans, just inspiration from others. To make the holes for the pipe and the arch of the pivot gate, I set up a jig on my router table. The hole in the gate was made using a 6 inch “Corn Hole” hole saw on the drill press.

The design concept of course is not mine so credit is given to the below YouTubers. The videos below both have free plans for 4 inch blast gates.

Some of the pictures rotated when I posted them. I will try to fix them later.

That’s cool.
Now you have to remember to use it. I have two of the plastic ones and forget to open or close them all the time,..but I’m old!

Cheers, Jim
