Wif and I are building a new house (hence the absence from LumberJocks) and needed a simple mantle to fit our simple lifestyle. This is what I came up with – Black Walnut with Mountain Mahogany accents. Bread boards on both end and the center one makes up for the lack of long enough boards (many thanks to Cronk for the walnut and the help!) Finished with Poly sealer, Poly and wax.

If that’s a simple mantle, I’d hate to see you define complex. it’s gorgeous!

Schroeder:
Beautiful, too bad your walnut slabs aren’t bookmatched on the edge by the center breadboard. Picture 4.
Just kidding. But it would have been cool.

This came out so sharp looking. The contrast between the stone and dark walnut is stunning. I love the button details, and those breadboards too.
Put some steaks on because this project is WELL DONE!
