I’d say he’s doing OK.
Is this on the cheap $20 lathe you got him?
-- No piece is cut too short. It was meant for a smaller project.

Thank you all for the great comments he really is enjoying his new hobby… Sawdust the $20 lathe as we have found is only good to take up space in the shop… He went and got a Central Machinery Mini Lathe and it works like a charm… But now that being said both really do not like HF tools I call them the disposable machines.. But it serves the purpose until a better one can take its place..

Ah, the woodworker malady.
Get hooked with the cheap stuff and then go spend the bigger bucks.

I think that is what Norman said in his interview re: General Company. .. “buy up” and grow into the tool rather than regretting the purchase as your skills grow.
