Ok, don’t look at the dust on the back of the back in the last picture :) So this one I drew up myself. It’s been pretty much done for a while but I can’t decide if I really like the handles or not. They are actually the second set I’ve done for this box, the first were ambrosia maple – same shape but smaller. I haven’t glued the handles in yet – please guys let me know what you think. I made them to mirror the shape of each drawer with a flat area around the dowel but curved out from on either end. If I were to do it again, I’d do the drawers not so thick walled. Overall I do like the shape, it measures 9×5x4. The box is walnut and handles are curly maple. The evening light really highlights my entry point in the picture, darn it – lol. I’d like to put a few more coats of poly on it. Right now it has several soakings of danish oil, left to cure for a week or so then a couple of coats of wipe on satin poly. Oh yeah, I still haven’t invested in that flocking applicator yet!

Critiques welcome please as always :) And thanks for looking!

I like all of it, handles are in the eyes of the new owner – and I’m not a big fan of flocking anyway. I would rather spend a little more time finishing the inside of drawers

I love this cute little box …. but since you brought it up … maybe the handles should NOT be pointed …. try rounding them over just a tad and I think it would look a lot better … but I really do love it …. GREAT JOB :<))

Great box.

I do agree with Tony not quite as pointed will have more appeal.

Nice looking bandsaw box, Kim I like the handles . It makes the box look like a cat paw! Really cool.

Anyway for flocking, I bought the glue and the fibers. I tape off the drawer where you don’t want flocking, apply a liberal amount a glue and then I put the fiber in a 2 liter plastic pop bottle and I have a bunch of 1/8” holes in the cap and I force the flocking in by squeezing the bottle. Fill it real full, let it dry 72 hours and then dump out the excess to be used again.

cheers, Jim

I like the symmetry of the box and the colors of the wood. I like the middle handle. I wonder if it might look a touch better if the two outer handles were point down rather than up? Really a minor issue on great looking work.

Thanks guys – I agree new handles are in order! This box doesn’t have a destination as of yet – I just made it to make it. So maybe I’ll hold on to it to experiment with that flocking I may – or may not get around to – someday ordering (thanks for the tip, Jim!) :)

I agree with the several of the comments…........there is nothing really pointed on the box so why on the handles? Round them over and they will look better.

I’m glad I posted this without glueing in those handles. Just didn’t feel they were right but couldn’t “see” it. I appreciate everyone’s opinions and there seems to be consensus – I’ll try to rework the existing or make new ones. Just another reason I love this community of woodworkers :)))
