Butternut Bed

I decided to build a bed and wanted to build one with as few screws/bolts as possible, so I came up with this. The bed assembles without any screws/bolts—the only place I used screws was for the rail that holds the slats.

I also got the chance to improve my hand tool skills which is something I have been really wanting to do.

All together, a very fun project!

Smart design. What type wood is that?

It’s Butternut—a very nice wood to work with.

That made a great bed. And good design on the hand-cut joinery!

You came up with that?

I’m fairly certain I’ve seen a bed exactly if not almost exactly like that.

Probably somewhere on here….

What inspired you?

childress: I saw a design similar to this on LJ, and adapted it some to this. There are plenty of beds like this in the Japanese joinery world, which is where most of the inspiration came from.

Elegant. Simple lines. Very nice.
