Project Information

Here are two versions of a design called "Symmetry Drawing C" by M. C. Escher. The first is a 7-1/2 foot x 4 foot wall decoration carved in redwood. The four birds and two fish fit together in a tessellation. The second version is a mobile carved in 9" x 5" basswood. Four other figures are suspended around the central piece which is like the wall decoration, but in this case everything is carved on both sides.

This design was later (January 1952) used by Escher to produce a woodcut of "Sketch of Two Intersecting Planes."

Nice work Phil. Not sure about flying fish, but diving ducks can be.

Another great piece!
You Escher work is just too much for words, perhaps I like them because I like Echer's work too.
By the way, the larger one would beautiful in my living room!

Go back and look at the first photo. The white streaks are snow flakes falling. This is California and the carving was mounted to the front of my house for 20 years! It is now hung in my patio in Ventura:
