I have just delivered this newly finished staff to it’s delighted new owner.
Leo’s staff on youtube as it is much easier to see, especially the carved areas

Although this carving was done out of love, it was not an easy one for me to do. The figures in particular were difficult, as I have never carved people before. The other problem I encountered was finding appropriate pictures. I settled on silhouettes however that was a very stupid move as there was no detail whatsoever and I then had to find relevant material to work from to add the details into the existing carved figures.
Having to somehow blend the two very different subjects of martial arts and Austria was also a concern but I think I managed to do this by putting a grip between the subjects and then using the same colours in each section to bring it all together.
I have known the recipient all my life and so it was very important to me to see this stick through even though at times it really was very irritating. Thankfully it all came together in the end.

If you are interesting in seeing progress pictures of Leo’s staff I have put an album on my Facebook page
