Commissioning Pennant Display

The commissioning pennant is the distinguishing mark of a commissioned Navy ship. It is customary for the Chief’s Mess of a warship to award this pennant to the Commanding Officer upon his transfer.
Most of the display cases I could find for ideas were shadowbox/picture frames. I thought a desk display modeled after a Sea Chest would be nice and provide room for coins and plaque while maintaining size ratio.
This display is made from a single 8ft board of 5/4 Japanese Cherry milled to 3/8” thick. The brass strap hinges were ordered “rough” from Indonesia, I detailed, beveled and polished them as well as the antique scroll hinges at the back.
Unfortunately the laser engraving of a Destroyer and the phrase “Toujour La Dace” was not burned deep enough, and is almost invisible after the danish oil was applied.
I hope you enjoy the photos, feedback is always welcome.

Beautiful wood and a very nice case. I wonder if some rottenstone buffed in would have darkened up the engraving to make it stand out better.

You picked a beautiful piece of wood for the project. I like the design. Well done.
