New Turner… Maybe 6 months… Wife’s friends wanted to buy bottle stoppers and then she said she wanted to start an Etsy store so let’s see what happens.

Some random scraps I had floating around

Pretty nice turning buddy. Looks like you been turning much longer!

I blame all the bad influences on this forum and the hammer/mallet swap in particular…. Now I want to upgrade to a Laguna….that might be my graduation gift to myself next summer..lol

I should just randomly send Kenny beer so this thread never dies.

Cool!, If can you find the rubber wine stoppers and fit them on some of your turnings you’d have another market!

I already have 5 various stainless steel bases. I chose them over the chrome plated because I don’t trust the plating to stay on.

These are the bottoms I have.

Nice looking turnings. It is always nice to make good use of small scraps. They make great hostess gifts.

The SS plugs are great but there are also silicon cups with sealing ribs available that fit over a 1/2” stem. They are inexpensive and easily replaced if damages. (Woodcrafter carries then)

I use a piece of 1/2” diameter hardwood dowel about 2” long glued into a dado drilled in the blank being turned. The dowel doubles as a “spigot” to hold the blank in the lathe chuck during the turning and finishing process and then is trimmed to length to slip the silicon cup on.
