YUP another Double-Double Dovetail Jewelry Box … Purple Heart and Maple

I make a lot of jewelry boxes with the main wood Maple and the trim Purple Heart. One is in the main signature photo on our web site. One day while pondering a Red Heart and Wenge box, I asked the little woman what she thought of a Purple Heart body and Maple trim. She said, “Dude! Go for it!” She almost never calls me Dude, so I knew I had to do it.

The inside is also pictured here. I used Maple for the tray and dividers. The tray sits on a runner front and back. If you look at the first ZONK post in the comments, you’ll see how the dividers notched and can be removed. They are, however, glued into the tray. The ladies like to pick up the tray by the dividers.

As usual this is a Double-Double Dovetail Jewelry Box. I can’t help myself, I just love that joint. I use the incra jig for the joints. The box has six coats of sprayed on lacquer inside and out.

Odie: A great looking box. How do you find that the PurpleHeart fades in color after a few years.

Fantastic box, Odie!

As a side note, with all those dividers it looks perfect for an old guy to sort his daily medications in. :-)

Absolutely gorgeous! Purple heart is my favorite wood anyway…. and to see this box… I’m awe struck.

Karson, I find Purple Heart gets darker with age. The purple color is almost a form of oxidation. It also helps to get a piece that is a very deep purple. I’ve had some Purple Heart almost turn gray when it was tooled and then purple again when aged.
