This is my first project with anything other than pine. Boxes and door panels are 1/2” oak ply with solid oak door and face frames. Was a good project and working with hardwood was a learning experiance. They have one coat of stain then triple poly.

Hi Bryan!

Great looking cabinets. I remember the first time I used Oak after building everything with Pine, and now I rarely build anything from pine.

If I may, I would like to provide you a tip for future cabinets, I noticed your sides have the grain running horizontal, typically you would run the grain from the plywood vertical or in the same direction as the rest of the cabinet. Other than that these are fantastic!!

Any plans for what will go between them??

After they were assembled the differing grain patterns from the sides to the door panels was the first thing I noticed. I didn’t have enough ply left to recut and didn’t want to buy another sheet. I’ll definatley pay closer attention next time! I think a matching shelf or shelves will go between them.

Bryan, great job! Nothing better than making your own cabinets.

Have your say...
