Back over the winter I was in between Projects and I decided it was time for a proper crate for my Chainsaw gear. Previously I was using and old plastic milk crate and it was just boring. I decided that someone making their own lumber needs to make something nice for the gear.

I started by taking the dimensions of the old crate and made it a little taller. I had plenty of my milled lumber lying around and planed it all down to 1/2” thick and then glued up wider panels. I wanted to be slightly over the top so I got to marking out dovetails. My current bench set up didn’t allow for the wide panels in my quick release vise so I added some blocks of wood to bring out the front of my bench and I had enough to put a quick clamp on and hold it still. The dovetails were the best I have cut to date and it was very enjoyable to make. The bottom has a rabbet cut all around and then is in a rabbet/groove and is floating. Also, for the knots in the lumber, I tinted the 5 minute epoxy black and I think it gives them a better look.

The overall measurements are 19” Long x 13” Deep and 1’ Tall. Sorry about the pictures, some are in my house and the others are in my shop. Also, check out my other projects, I am uploading a few tonight as I have been slacking on uploading them all.

Nice!
This reminds me of old fashioned apple boxes. My parents used to use them as a stack-able bookshelves.
