My handmade workbench is complete. It received the last coat of tung oil this morning. It is laminated maple 30 inches by 7 feet by 2 1/2 inches thick. I mounted the bases and attatched the 1/2” plywood sides to the bench upside down then rolled it over completely assembled. I am estimating the weight at about 275 pounds. The other side of the bench has an open front with shelves built in underneath to store stuff as well a vise. I put a semi- fancy bench dog holder on the side, countersunk a deck screw and plugged with walnut. What a fun project this bench was and what a useful piece of equipment in the shop. Now I know what I messed up on so I can now build my REAL workbench and give this one to my Dad for christmas…....
Thanks for looking.

Looks solid. Is the handscrew clamp just hanging there, or is it part of your clamping/vise system?

At 275lbs, this bench is a solid piece of work, should last you a lifetime. Looks really good!

Nice bench…IMO always one of the most important, and potentially spiritual things a craftsman can build.

The handscrew clamp is just hanging there. It just sticks up through the slots when i use it.

Oh I get it, so the handscrew becomes your surface vise? Is one tip cut shorter so only the far arm of the handscrew sticks through?

Exactly right. One jaw has been cut about an inch shorter. It works very well. Unfortunately I cannot take credit for this. Also the clamp had to be planed for thickness as it was too fat to fit in the between the strips I had cut for the top.
