I needed to relax with a little lathe time..the elves needed a break from sawing so I laid up another goblet. This one was almost scrapped but I wanted to finish it to test out my idea for the captive rings …. these are for you Brian ( Bushmaster!!!) you Asked !!
This was made from 25 pieces but I laid them up wrong when gluing. I was gluing each side of the flat assemblies and got them out of order. I was going to throw it away and start over but I band sawed them apart( lost a little wood) and glued them up in the right order. The inner shape was a rectangle instead of a square, but it worked out okay. They are made from mahogany ( outer), cedar ( middle) and the center is pistachio..but the 2 rings are walnut!!!
The goblet is 2 1/2" x 7 1/2" high. The base was turned with 2 diameters to accept the rings to lay flat. It is finished with EEE and Shellawax.
