Urn - A Tribute to my father

My father passed away in April after a short battle with cancer. He was a great man and an exceptional role model for what a father and family man should be. He always loved to ask about the projects I was working on and enjoyed seeing the final product. As a tribute to him and a final gesture of thank you for being such an outstanding person I was honored to build his burial urn and the box in which the urn was buried. The urn was done from cherry (lumber yard had only 1 12” wide board in stock and I managed to get it), with a front plaque of hard maple and purple heart cross. The burial box was pine with a hard maple plaque with “Forever Held In Our Hearts” and my daughters hand prints on the side – an idea suggested by them so that they could always be holding on to poppy – a touching thought that brought tears to my eyes. I’m sure if he saw the boxes he would be proud but would have also nit-picked it to find any flaws and I loved that he did that. Pushed me to be even more particular with my woodworking. He was laid to rest last Saturday under a blazing hot sun – the weather he absolutely loved. I hope now he is at peace and is reunited with my mom on the other side. RIP “Skipper” – you always will be held in our hearts.

Thank you all for taking time to look at and read about this little tribute.

Take care.

Sorry for your loss but happy that you had a great dad. They seem to be in short supply these days and needed far more than any Rx society offers as a substitute.

“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”
