The end grain cutting board is a current project, in that I am making several of them for Christmas gifts. The meat mallet is for tenderizing meat. My wife makes a dish she calls pounded chicken, yeah I can hear the jokes so let it go unsaid. It is one of my favorite meals, and when her store bought hammer broke, I had to do something fast. I made the mallet out of yew for the head and oak for the handle.
The end grain cutting board was made after being inspired by watching a video of the Wood Whisperer.

Very nice, what are you using for the finish?

General’s Salad Bowl for the cutting board, and the mallet is finish free. The turned face of the mallet has been aged and used. It was re-purposed from a rolling pin that wouldn’t stay true.

I have two more to make. I joined LJ after I watched the Wood Whisperer, and now I am going to have to make a zigzag board.
Ken, I was previously unaware of the hand shake. Is it a requirement to learn it, or can I still lurk around this site with out it? Just Kidding
